GL2S is the premium brand and the first product in a long-term strategy focused on developing a viable tournament lifestyle on the Great Lakes. The idea of the GL2S was born in late 2002 when a seriously underserved market opportunity was identified on the Great Lakes, the Salmon and Trout tournament marketplace. Figures from the GAO (General Accounting Office) estimate that the Great Lakes Salmon and Trout fishery generates approximately 4.5 Billion dollars per year. However, even with such a lucrative marketplace, the top existing tournaments are typically paying $10,000 or less to the winner of a 100+ boat event.
It became clear that Great Lakes tournament anglers couldn’t build a life based around salmon tournament fishing; most pro anglers were and remain charter captains. It has been said many times about salmon charter fishing that “the best way to make a small pile of money is to start with a large pile.” Additionally Great Lakes tournament fishing is not known by most sport fishing enthusiasts; who could easily identify bass, redfish, kingfish, billfish, and most recently shark fishing as tournament sports.
The result is GL2S. GL2S is a new concept in salmon tournament fishing. GL2S has at its core a number of goals that are essential to the long-term success of Great Lakes tournament fishing. These goals are:
• ROI – Return on Investment to GL2S sponsors and anglers alike is the key component in changing the nature of salmon tournament fishing. • Viable Lifestyle – develop an environment where tournament angling can be a sustaining and lifelong pursuit. • Brand Excitement – build a brand that brings salmon tournament angling on par with many of the premier tournament series. • Professional – in every aspect of each GL2S event execution. • Family Fun – turn each event into a fun experience for the whole family. • Community Impact – leave a positive impact on each community we visit.
GL2S intends to bring the same levels of visibility and tournament dollars to professional salmon and trout anglers as are currently enjoyed by bass, walleye, redfish and kingfish tournament anglers. It will create an environment where successful teams can make a good living just fishing tournaments and it will provide numerous individual sponsorship opportunities to those anglers. |
