2009 GL2S 3 Years, 4 Months ago

I can't help but wonder why this website is so quiet and how it seemed to lose steam starting in early July of 2008.
I was under the impression that 2009 was going to be the "FULL LAUNCH" of the GL2S and that last year was just the beginning of what we would see from the organization. There have been no major announcements regarding the GL2S on this website for months and no participation in the blogs from visitors or people involved in GL2S. I noticed on tournamenttrail.net that GL2S is not sponsoring the BIG KING for the 333 $500 prize at every tournament and that also has me very concerned about the status of GL2S.
Is there something going on that we need to know about or is the status of GL2S being held a secret until the shows in the spring and/or the Tournament Trail banquet???
I was a very big fan of this website and the concept GL2S was proposing. I watched all of the videos multiple times and followed the standings from afar and as a competitor.

Wow Pocaine.. You're correct. There is no mention of GL2S on tournamenttrail at all. I hope everything is ok, but with the crash of the economy and evrything else, who knows what is gong on. I wish nothing but the best to Greg, Tom, Jen, Scotty, and everyone else involved with GL2S. If all is well and everything is up and running.. AWESOME! If not..My hat is off to all those involved for giving it a valiant effort. Best wishes to all and I hope you had a safe and happy holiday season! ONLY 3 MORE MONTHS OF THIS CRAP!!!

The state of the economy definitely gives us something to worry about for all tournament fishing. Sponsorship is sure to be affected by the downturn and participation as well. The only good indicator right now is that the price of gas is staying low so far.
The concept of the creators of GL2S was fantastic and deserves a round of applause. The bottom of this website says Copyright 2004-2009 so the creators have been diligently working for years on GL2S. No one could have known for certain how the economic conditions would change over the course of the past five years and unfortunately the launch of GL2S has coincided with tough economic times for a lot fishing companies and anglers.

Hi Guys I have been wondering the same thing my planned crew for 2008 all developed shrinking wallet syndrome as the cost of fuel went thru the roof. Basicly wiping out my plan of getting into the tournament trail with my budget shot as well and no crew to help out. So I gave up and fished in fun tournaments to finish the season. With things the way they are it may be a tough fishing season ahead.

Guys, I feel we should all continue supporting the GL2S! As a promotional tool and the future of tournament fishing depends on their sucess. Sure we can continue what we've been doing, but we all need to support the GL2S. Small and medium sponsors are what will last and the big XL sponsors come and go. I guess my point is that with the folding of other longer running events(PWT, etc), we all need to do our part. And word of mouth is the best advertising. The GL2S may need to scale back a little and wait for the economy to turn but, with everyones help it can make it over the long haul! Vince www.nmcharters.com

I couldn't agree with you more, Vinny. The way Greg, Tom, and everyone are busting their tails to promote our sport is outstanding. I will do everything I can to support them and any and all sponsors. That is the only way this will work. It takes us, to support them, to promote us, to promote them.... See what I mean??

Vinne is correct, we need to continue supporting the work Greg, Tom and Jen and others have done, they may have to scale back a bit in the near future before they can go full force again but in this economy, who hasn't had to scale back. I'm sure there will be a few naysayers out there but lets make sure the GL2S has the last laugh. They can count on me for any help I can give them. Rick B.

Based on these posts, it sounds like things are still in place then for GL2S to move forward in the future. I was getting even more worried with the B.L.A.S.T. newsletter that was sent out in the last week. I will continue to support the events and its sponsors and look forward to another year of healthy competition on the Trail.

I think people just want to know what is going on? It was great to see weekly updates in the summer, but we really have not had any sort of update since late august.

I for one want very much to make this work heck I want to retire an make my living fishing in these tournaments. The only thing that will ensure that is to keep the intrest level high. I can see where it would be tough to maintain that level during the summer with everthing going on but lots of us are bored and waiting for the weather to warm up so we can hit it again. My knees don't like the cold so much any more so I almost never ice fish anymore and fighting the current in waders can be painfull so for me it is all about the kings on the big lake. Not much in the world better than the sound of the drag and a rod pounding in the rod holder wiating for me to grab it. The challange of getting it to the net without messing up the rest of my gear and trying to guess how big it is. Tight Lines Jim
